ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
LADY CANDIDATE'S ADDRESS. (Per Press Association.! , AUCKLAND, last night. The political campaign in Auckland wtus opened by Miss E; Melville, Independent Reform candidate for Roskiil, to-night. She said she would vote for the present Government on a noconfidence motion. The general call for economy should not be allowed to interfere with education. The Government should encourage the building of houses by advancing money to homeseekers. She urged the need for social reforms, particularly a child welfare department, to control the whole life of the child. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. CHRISTCHURCH, last, night. Mr. J". A. MeCullough, formerly of Clio Arbitration Court, who is the Labor Party's candidate, for Riccartoji, opened his campaign to-night, addressing a large meeting in the Biceurton Town Hall. He announced himself a.s bitterly opposed to the present Government. He cited as failures of the Government their railway administration, their immigration policy, and their policy of raising tax free loans during the'war period instead of levying additional luxation. Ho made the general statement that financial institutions of this country practically dictated the policy of the. Government. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks. .
