Fen- j j wick repeated a, declaration, ho recently j . I made to. Mr Masscy, that there were at; , J least two thousand new cases of venereal j ,; disease in New Zealand each year. Hoi : believed! that was largely an - under [estimate. There were thirty new cases jper month at Christcllurch hospital, and it w r as very reasonable to-.assume that t thera wero another thirty in . the city ! treated by private doctors. On a very ! moderate basis that made sixty cases per | month, or 720 per year, or over 2SOO per, j year for the four centres, and that was' 1 , leaving out seaports like Lytteltctu and 1 Port' Chalmers, and big towns: liko Pal-1 ■' merston North and Hamilton. Dr. Sandston said that Dr. Fenwick had i been very restrained in his estimate, : •and his figure? probably represented, not ; i j more than forty per cent of tho real : amount of fresh venereal infection in] New Zealand'yearly. - r
