Regarding the statement by tho secretary of the Canterbury Freezing Workers' Union, that the only condition under which companies can get the strikers back to work is to grant aconference, the secretary of the Freezing Companies' Association stated' that 'no request lias been made by the union for a conference, and the implication that such a conference has been asked for anil that the companies have not agreed, is misleading, and is evidence that the Federation officials are deliberately endeavorinjr to delude tho men into tho belief that a conference is pending. The companies consider that if tho union qr the Federation officials really desire tho termination of the-strike, they can bring it about by instructing tho rami still on strike to return to work.
