HOCKEY.

Ladies': Kia Toa 1, Allies nil; High School 3, Rovers nil. Mens: Y.M.C.A. 6, Civil Service 3. Three hockey matches that contained a good deal of interest for followers oi the game, were played on Saturday afternoon, two of these taking place upon the Reserve, and the third on the High School grounds. The first game, between Kia Toa and Allies' ladies' teams, was won by Kia Toa, by one goal to nil. The game was even throughout, and both forward lines were frequently within the opposing team's circle, but good defensive work prevented threatened scores. The one goal obtained by Kia Toa was tho result of a. fine individual dash on the part of the fast inside right,- Miss F. Hill, who swooped into the circle dribbling the ball at a fast pace, and scored with a clever shot, despite the opposition offered by Miss G. Newey. The latter had the opportunity to intercept, and tried a speculating shot, missing narrowly, and leaving the way open to the goal. Miss Newey retrieved herself during the latter stages of the game, when Kia. Toa pressed hotly, and a big responsibility fell upon her, and upon Miss I. Robb, who also bore herself with accustomed coolness, and showed the msual dexterity. In the Kia Toa forward line, Miss F. Hill was well supported by her sister, and very good play was seen in the second half/ The game was umpired bv Messrs. Henderson and Ashton. ' A peculiar circumstance marked tho closing stage of the Y.M.C.A. v. Civil Service men's match, on tho Reserve. Both teams were going strongly, exchanging attack for defence regularly, until within a few minutes of time, when suddenly Y.M.C.A. made a big effort, and romped through the opposition backs and scored three goals in very few more minutes. Up to this stage the Civil Service defence had been very sound, and though it had been pierced three times, the honors were even, and there was nothing to account for the extraordinary collapse. Smale (3), Duncan (2), and Blair scored for Y.M.C.A., and McPherson (2), and Ashton for Civil Service. The game was referccd by Mr. Henderson. HIGH SCHOOL DEFEAT ROVERS. High School secured a win over Rovers by 3 to nil. The High School forwards dominated play, but their backs were rather weak. The Rovers' play improved considerably in tho second spell, but they were playing a losinc game. For High School, Misses Hei (2), Bilham, Murray 1 , and Gleave were prominent, while for Rovers Misses K. Turnbull, R. .Benson, and N. Gallagher bore the brunt of the attack. In tho first spell Misses E. Hei and Murray secured goals, while Miss Murray added an additional, ono in the last period of play. Mr. ttissiii was Referee.
