IMPROVED RAILWAY ENTERPRISE.
(Special to tlie Herald.) WELLINGTON, thTs day
Is it a beginning of the new railway policy that the Railway Department will now accept checked luggage on the ferry wharf in Wellington, t for delivery to an officered station in the South Island. This system has been inaugurated, although it has been refused for many years. Another improvement is the issue of tickets for Easter excursions from the central booking office in Wellington for airy South Island station where there is an officer in charge. Wellington commercial men are urging the Railway Department to adopt a schedule of standard weights for packages, so as to avoid weighing standard lines of biscuits, jams, and other commodities in containers, the weight of which hardly varies an ounce. This system would greatly facilitate handling of goods.
