A pronounced and somewhat sudden revival in the inter-state passenger shipping trade,' especially to and from Queensland,, is imminent (says the Sydney Daily Telegraph) For the last six months or longer the slump in the passenger service has paused ship owners much concern, and many well-known steamers have been tied up in preference to being run at a dead loss. During the last few weeks numerous. enquiries have been made-for berths to Melbourne and Queensland ports, with the result that Howard Smith, Ltd., have decided to recommission their, fast and luxuri-ously-fitted steamer Canberra, for the Melbourne-Sydney-Queehsland service. To meet, the'requirements of travellers it has been decided to add the Cooma to the run. Nothing definite has been decided about the Bombala, which is also idle; but it is probable that if bookings continue to increase she will be seen again along the Australian coast. The condition of other, inter-state services is •also improving, but the New Zealand trade is still stagnant. Nearly forty steamers,' mostly engaged in the -cargo trade, are lying idle in New Zealand and Australian ports. -'■'
