ROWING.
GISBORNE CLUB'S DOUBLE SCULLS Four splendid races were rowed off on the Taruheru course last evening, in the second round" of the G.R.C double sculls for Mr. A. J. Cox's trophy. The series is conducted from scratch, and thus far the crews engaged have shown a marked degree of similarity in combination and determination, two very desirable qualifications. The heats of the second round resulted as follows: L. Hansen defeated F. Thomas, C. McCoy defeated J. Johnston, A. Rowley defeated F. Allen, and A. Roddick defeated L. V. Kay. The semi-finals will be rowed this evening, Rowley meeting Hansen, ano McCoy going out.against Roddick. The final will take place to-morrow evening, and should prove most interesting. Events yet. to bo decided on the season's programme are the Kennedy Memorial Fours and the Langrjdge Pairs, in addition to two single sculling series. A meeting of the executive this evening will decide upon the form of the next event to be contested. A. good deal of interest centres in the pair oars, and the nominations are certain to be excellent. There is a fine class of young sculler coming on in the club, and a handicap single scull series should prove very popular.
