If proceedings for divorce cannot succeed without bringing a child to give evidence against one or the other, stated Mr. Justice Hosking at the Supreme Court at Wellington, it is better for the parents to remain as they are, rather than risk demoralising the child. The demise was announced to-day of Mrs. Bellerby, wife of Mr. 13. Bellerby, of Gisboine. The deceased lady, who was beloved bv a wide circle of friends, had been in 'failing health for man) months past, and her death this morning therefore came as a happy relief after a long and painful illness. The late Mrs. Bellerby had been a resident of this district for many years, and the deepest sympathy will be extended toward Mr. Bellerby and the bereaved family. Messrs. Tattersall and Bayly, local agents for Messrs. Thos. Cook and Son, report further bookings of local resident.for passage overseas as follows: —Mr. Clias. Wellwood Reeves, to England, per s.s. Osterley, leaving Sydney on Apri' 15; Mr. Geo. McKeddie, to England, per s.s. Osterley, leaving Sydney Apri! 15; Mr. Nigel Williams, to England, per s.s. Corinthic, leaving Wellington Apri' 10; Mr. John Quayle, to England, per s.s. Dorset, leaving Wellington end April; Mrs. Cuthbert Morse, and Mrs. O. P.- Browne, to Honolulu, per s.s. Niagara, leaving Auckland April 25. Up to December 21sti last the total amount' subscribed 1 by the people of New Zealand and paid over to the Save the Children Fund amounted to about £55,670 (writes a. London correspondent/ A further sum of £323 having come to band since then, the High Commissionc acquiesced with the desires of the Council of the Save the- Children Fund and allocated! the amount for the estab lishment of a "New Zealand Kitchen" ir ttie Saratov district. It is in this part of Riussia. where the populace, mainly peasantry, are suffernng the extrenv rigors of the famine, and the Save the Children Fund organisation has taker the responsibility of feeding a quarter of a million children of the district.
