The visit of tli<? Springbok athletes to Gisborne lips been looked forward to ns tin event marking an epoch in the history of local amateur athletics. In conformity with the recognised importance of the visit, the Amateui Athletic, and Harriers’ Club are sparing no trouble to perfect the arrangements for- tlie •meeting, so that neither the visitors, dhe local athletes, or tin* public will have the slightest, cause foi complaint. Working parties have been busily engaged during the past feu week's in preparing the tracks on the Childers Hoad "Reserve, and everything now seems to be in as good condition as human energy can secure under the circumstanees. The indefatigable secrctarv, Mr. MeFndycn, has his hands very full, but is. confident that the meeting will turn out as successful an athletic feature as any previously held in the district. The Springbok athletes will arrive to-morrow' from Napier, whence tho> are travelling overland under the charge and by the courtesy of Mr. H. F. Forster. Mr. Forster yesterday motored through to Napier to meet the four athletes, J. Avrcs-Oosterlaak, 11. p. Kinsman, D. A- K. Leathern, and I. 0. Emery (manager). It wall be interesting to the public to hear that representative retailers and general employers have intimated t.o the club their willingness to allow their employees to attend the meeting, though they do not wish to close for the afternoon, as suggested.
