MARRIED WOMAN’S DEATH.
An inquest into the circumstances of the sudden death on Saturday morning of a married woman named Euphemia. Thompson, aged 50 years, was held this morning by Mr. H. E. Hill, acting coroner, and a jury comprising Messrs I). W. Coleman (foreman), IT. Carr. G. C. Munns, and W. Smith. .John Alexander Thompson, barman, said that the deceased was his wife, to whom he had been married for 21 years. She always enjoyed good health. Recently, however, he had noticed a change, and he advised her to see a doctor, but she refused. On the night oil February 11 witness and deceased retired as usual, but about 2.30 a.m. she appeared to become, unconscious. Dr. Williams was sent for, and on arrival he pronounced life extinct. Dr. Gunn said that he had performed a post mortem examination on Saturday. The skin over the whole body was deeply jaundiced, the abdomen distended, and the legs were swollen. The kidneys were enlarged and showed degeneracy, and the abdominal cavity contained a quantity of dropsical fluid. Death in witness’s opinion was due to disease of (lie liver and kidneys, resulting in dropsy and heart failure. The origin of the. trouble would hi! at least a, year ago, and medical attention in the early stages would have prolonged' her life. Constable McDonnell, of Wlialaupoko, gave evidence that on Saturday he removed the body of deceased (o Haisman's mortuary.
The jury found that death resulted from natural causes, in accordance with the medical evidence given by Dr. Gunn.
