SIGNOR NITTI’S BOOK.
SCATHING CRITICISM.
Elec. Tel Copyright—United Press Assn l (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, Feb. 11. “Peaceless Europe,” a book by the exItalian Premier, Nitti, lias been published in London. It scathingly criticises tlie Versailles treaty and caustically refers to the leading characters ’at the Conference. It treats Mr. Lloyd George affectionately, and says: “Clemenceau was a tremendous destroyer. Dr. Wilson was fickle in his infallibility and made a great mistake as head of a State in taking part in the Conference. He was greatly ignorant of European affairs. Mr. Hughes is depicted as a small-minded, violent man who directed a furious campaign for a huge indemnity, providing that Germany should pay the entire cost of the war.- Later, Mr. Hughes, who was a sincere man, recognised that it M T as impossible to go beyond asking reparation damages.”
