SPRINGBOKS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. : Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. The South African athletes competed in sports here to-day in beautiful weather. The only event won by the visitors was the relay race. In all the other competitions the handicaps given to the local men wero too generous. Tho results of the races the Africans were concerned in were : 100 Yards : Weir (7yds) 1, Scott (9yds) 2, Whittle (9yds) 3. Also competed : .). W, Bakes, W. K. Ayres-Oosterlaak, H. P. Kinsman, South Africa, all scratch. Inches separated the placed men. Time, 10 4-5. 880 Yards: Lovoll (80yds) 1, Brewster (80yds) 2, Prethey (85yds) 3. Also competed : I). A. Leathern (South Africa). Time, 1.58 2-5. Leathcrn's time was 2.4. 220 Yards: Malcolmson (26yds) 1, Scott (14yds) 2, Weir (12ydsj 3. Also competed : Kinsman and Oosterlaak (scr). Time, 23 2-5. 440 Yards: Malcolmson (60yds) 1, Scott (24yds) 2, Willis (30yds) 3. Also competed : Bukes. Time, 44 2-5. Relay Race, four men a-side, 800yds, 440yds", 22ydf, and 220yds: South Africa (Leathern, Emery, Oosterlaak, Kinsman) 1, Hawert 2, New Plymouth No. 2 3. VVon by 150 yards. Tune, 3,56.
