FIRE AT AUCKLAND.

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A firei at Hie promises of John Burns and Co., hardware merchants, at. eight o'clock this morning resulted in damage estimated roughly at between £IOOO and 20C0, mainly by smoke andfwaler. The brigade's prompt action saved what threatened to be a disastrous conflagration. The lire was caused by a light from a gas jot spreading along a pipe and up two storeys, igniting inflammable material in the vicinity.
