SWIMMING.
(Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, last night. In guorious weather six life saving teams competed in the Nelson Shield contest held at Lyall Bay in the presence of a large number of spectators. The Governor-General, who was present, complimented the swimmers on their spleudid performances. Results were as follows: Land drill. —Lyall Bay 1, Maranui 2, Canterbury 3. In life saving in the surf some splendid performances were put up, especially by the visiting teams. The judge spoke highly of the general bearing and equipment and complimented New Zealand instructors on tbe almost perfect efficiency of some teams. Results are ns follows: New Brighton B, 140 points, 1; Canterbury, 138 points, 2; Maranui A, 135 poinfgj 3; New Brighton A and Lyall Bay, each 129 points, 4; Hawke’s Bay, 123 points, 6; Maranui B, 101 points 7.
