BOXING.
AT OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT,
The first boxing tournament of 1922 under the auspices of the Gisborne Boxing Association, will be held this evening in the Opera House, and it will be '4f>rdinlly conceded that the fare to be submitted to the public is well up to the promise of previous tournaments. The preliminary bouts will bring forward some of the best amateur talent in the various classes- in the town, and those •who have observed the performances of many of those whose names appear on the programme will look forward to one or two of the minor bouts in particular for a revelation of skill and gameness on the part of the boxers concerned. One match which should be full of interest is that between Pitcher and Morell. They will fight within the middleweight class, and both are sturdy and game and Morell has made a great advance since he last appeared and lias lost much of the wildness which previously marked his fighting. The bice fight between welter-weight Jock Graham and light-weight Bos Murray should lack no feature that would contribute to the public interest in the fight. Both are champions of the Dominion in their respective classes, and are clever, game and long-headed lads. Though both have already had fi good deal of experience, neither has been in the gnmo long enough to have staled. What the public wants is something fast and snappy, and these requirements should be met by the two professional men, who will meet for a scheduled 15round contest. The bout will be refereed by Mr. J. A. Mackay, who, in award-] itig the decisions, will have the assistance of Messrs. B. Aislabie and M. W. Craig, of the G.R.A. executive.
