GENOA CONFERENCE.
SUGGESTIONS FOR P OSTEON ME NT.
(Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) .Australian and N.Z Cable Association.' LONDON, February 8. The Morning Post states that the French plan for the postponement of the Genoa Conference is being pressed more energetically. There are two obvious grounds for this. (1), There is considerable vagueness respecting the conditions under which the Bolsheviks will be summoned to the Conference, and the French desire to confer with other nations attending and change such vagueness into certainty; (2) on the ground that the border States, Finland, Lativia, Esthonia, Linbirnia, Poland,. and Rumania, who are deeply concerned in Europe’s economic reconstruction, and whose presence at Genoa is essential to problems which will come before the Conference, are anxious that their position shall be assured against Bolshevik encroachment. It is not surprising that the French desire three -months’ postponement of the Conference. The British attitude in regard to this has not yet been determined by Cabinet. The French authorities in London deny that the French requested the postponement of the Genoa Conference.
(Received February 10, 9.15 a.m.) PARIS, Feb. 9.
M. Poincare, addressing the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chamber, said he had asked the Allied Governments to postpone the Genoa Conference for three months because postponement was essential to arrange a detailed pro gramme necessary for such a Conference. He added it was unnecessary to go to Genoa before June, otherwise the idea would bo given up.
