Continuing his speech at the final session of the Washington Conference, President Harding said: “I once believed in and advocated armed preparedness, but I have come to believe there is a better preparedness in the public mind and world opinion made ready to grant justice. It may be that tho naval holiday will expire with the treaties, but I do not believe it, since this Conference has pointed the way to peace. A liko Conference ,in tho future may illumino human activity to Belgium', the British Empire, China, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and Portugal. I can wish no more than the same feeling which we experienced of an honorable contribution to happy human advancement, a new senso of security in righteous pursuits and peace.” The President’s pastor then offered a prayer, after which the Conference adjourned sine clie.
