It is reported that a number of mills on the Main Trunk line are either closing down or shortening hands. The closing of one mill at Pnkihi will put 35 men out of work, and it is also stated that about 25 men have been put off from the mills at Rnngataua,—Taihape Times. According to the travelling reporter of the Wairarapa Age, figures show that within a month fat lambs have increased 100 per cent in price and fat ewes 200 per cent. Lambs that were selling at 12s 6d per head at the end of December are now changing hands at 255, the juice per lh having increased from 4J,d to 7<). The price for fat ewes has bounded from Id to 3d per lb., while there is a corresponding increase in the' price of fat wethers'
