HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODS.

DAMAGE IN TARANAKI

The postal authorities received the following advice from New Plymouth on Thursday afternoon: “Heavy rain caused slips last night on Waitara-Awa-kino road near Uriti, bringing down the telegraph lines and blocking roads. The Mangamohu bridge was awash. Suitable action has been taken to get the mails through by coaches. It is anticipated that the slips will soon be cleared.”

A message from the postmaster in Now Plymouth stated the Waitara-Awa-kino service—Mangamohu bridge awash. Water 25ft. above normal height. Leaving to get rope over to take mail to-morrow. Service interrupted to-day.
