GERMAN STRIKE SETTLED.

The general railway workers have joined in the Strike, which, it is estimated, is causing the loss of 190 million marks daily. The municipal, postal and telegraph employees- are now threatening to strike. The situation is very serious. The Government decree aroused fierce anger among the vast army of subordinate State employees, because it denies the right to strike. The unions are also up in arms against the seizure of union funds.
Unless negotiations commencing between the Chancellor and the trade union leaders are successful, Germany will be plunged in a general strike. Already 350,000 men are idle.
There was a sensation at Hamburg. Forl y-five . circus lions were left in a goods station, and maddened with hunger, tried to break the cages. A party of volunteers finally made the lion’s secure.
The. strike fever is spreading; many municipal workers are striking for it new scale of wages. Berlin to-morrow is likely to be without trams, gas, electricity, or water.
BERLIN, Feb. 5. Mediation by the General Federation of Trade Unions has effected a settlement, making some concessions to the strikers.
