LONDON, Jan. 4.
The lion. R. dynes, replying to Lord Birkenheads’ attack on Labor said industrial troubles since the war had often been prevented by tho political Labor party. Their service had been a service of restraint and sustained appeal to patience. The finance of the Poplar guardians was Christian carefulness compared with the Government’s lavish spending of public money on worthless, wicked objects abroad, and paying some totally useless Ministers at Home. Lord Birkenhead was an advocate with great talent, as was shown by his speeches in tho House of Lords for and against the settlement of the Irish question. He was endowed with qualities which Coalition required. Lord Birkenhead one day was furious with the peoples cf Ireland, Egypt, Russia, and Germany, and the next day was feebly inviting them to meet him and aid his Government colleagues to receive concessions which had been always withheld-until the Government was obliged, to surrender. CRITICISM OF LLOYD GEORGE. lElec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn. 1 (Received Feb. 6, 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 6. Mr. Napier, an ox-member of the New Zealand House of Representatives, arrived in tho Ormonde, en route from London to New Zealand. He states thatMr. Lloyd George is discredited' in the country, disliked by tho Conservatives and Independent-Liberals and Labor, but by skilful manoeuvring forces his enemies to give an overwhelming majority in stage-managed divisions. Those who admired his great services ,during tho war sav ho is ruining- the peace. If Mr. Asquith were ten years younger ho would sweep the country.
