GISBORNE ROWING CLUB.
«4k_ L.V.A. SHIELD AND PRESIDBNT'g FOURS. The weekly meeting of the Gisborne Bowing Club was held in the Club house last evening, the club captain, \|i 0. Q. Hansen, presiding over an attendance comprising Messrs A. R. (Jardiner, G. Parker, L. V. Kav. R. (). Sweet, C. W. Home, and G. C. .Tones. Th« Poverty Bay Club advised th< appointment of delegates to represent it on (he committee for (he intcr-clul sculling cup presented last- year foi animal competition by Mr A. M. Lewis. The (lisborir-e Club delegates were appointed, these being Messrs Kay, Fraser, and Home. v The meeting discussed the arrangements for the annual competition tor (Ik,, L.V.A. shield, Mr Gardiner submitting a report of preliminary conversations on the subject with the i-awa oaptain, Mr Neil). The original suggestion as to dates on which the tides would be eminently suitable for tho roVvhig of the competition were March 22 and 23, which fell on Wednesday and Thursday, lie had communicated this suggestion to the Uawa official, but it appeared that, while*Uawa was willing to fall in lint with what arrangements local exigencios demanded, they preferred to save time by rowing the competition on a Frill ty and Saturday, so thai their represenla lives could return to the Coast without the loss of a couple of extra days. '1 he Uawa captain had suggested March Stb and 10th as dates which iwould allow oi this, but there, was no reason, he believed, why the Friday and Saturday ol the week previously suggested would not meet the case. • A general discussion followed, in the course of whicli members pointed out the difficulty which would confront the club in the matter hi training its rep reEn it ii lives in the event of .March oth and 10th being adopted. The president's fours, in which practically all the active rowers were now engaged, would not conclude before the 14th inst., and practically only three weeks. would remain for.the training of the represenla tive crews, whereas a longer period was desirable. The committee appointed Messis. Hansen and Gardiner to act as delegates o.i the L.V.A. Competitions Committee, the delegates being instructed to lay before the committee the greater suitability of March 24 and 25 as- dates tor the competition"!! The next event on the club's programme was discussed, and it was decided to put on the Cox double scull series, nominations for whicli are to elor-2 on Fridav, 10th inst. PRESIDENT'S FOURS.
