TOKOMARU BAY.

The Bay has been rather quiet of late All the stations are now busy docking, and good percentages seem to have been obtained all round. The dry winter has given place to a somewhat wet spring. The state of the road between Tolaga Bay and Gisborne is still restricting motor traffic to the latter place. In the field of sport we fire between seasons. Our two local football •‘.heroes,’' Billy te Whata and Jimmy Mill, have returned after' their two matches against the Springboks in Hawke’s Bay<j and express themselves well pleased 'with the trip, botli on and off the field. The Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay controlling authorities treated them well. Local football is now finished. As was the case last year, Wanderers won the Tarnhull Cup (seniors), and the Morse Clip/ (juniors), whilst City won the Airey pennant (seniors) and the Tokomaru Farmers’ pennant (juniors). The .cricketers are now busy'preparing the ground for the coming season. A proposal is on foot to have some seating accommodation provided at- our local sports ground. This should prove a boon to onlookers. The 1 Home boat Ruapehu oompleted loading yesterday morning, and proceeded South. The' local freezing works are now practically empty. On Tuesday evening last- a troupe of entertainers from Tolaga, Bay gave a most successful concert programme in To Buka hall. The concert went with a swing, and many' encores were demanded. The “Merrymakers” returned to Tolaga Bay the same 'night. Quite a number of whales have been seen along the coast lately. About five ot' them were disporting themselves in the bay last Tuesday. Two or three have gone ashore at various points along the coast, and, owing to the hot weather, are raising a strong “protest-.”—Corres-pondent. Oct. 1.
