THE DANGERS OF SMOKING
HARBOR BOARD’S ACTION
As a sequel to tjie recent decision of the Gisborne Harbor Board, the following is a copy of a. letter dispatched by the secretary to the various firms employing waterfront labor: — “.The Board, at its last meeting, had their attention drawn to tho fact that quite frequently persons are seen .smoking in the cargo sheds. In the instance particularly referred to, the smokers were seen close to hales of llax in No. 4 sited. It is a difficult matter-to prevent this dangerous practice, hut the Board agreed that in the interests of consignees and others, you should he requested to instruct your fully clerks to stop anyone foifiid smoking in the sheds and to to particularly vigilant for offenders when inflammable goods are there. The Board would appreciate your assistance in the matter.” To the above, several firms have replied, staling that the Board’s wishes would be carried out. •
