REMOVAL OF KEY BRINGS DOWN 1000 TONS OF MASONRY.

LONDON, April 4.—One workman was killed and two were badly injured by the collapse, while in process of demolition, of the old bridge ai Higher Walton, between Preston and Blackburn.

A now bridge over the river Darwen is practically finished, and eight workmen were engaged in cutting away the old bridge. ~ Immediately the keystone was removed the entire structure, estimated to weigh 1000 tons, fell into the river, carrying seven men with it. Wallace Grimshaw, 21, was crushed to death beneath masses of masonry, another man sustained a broken leg, and a third was badly injured about the head and arms. Several others sustained minor injuries.
