The report of the Public Service Economies Commission, comprising the principal heads of the Public Service, appointed to report what economies can be effected in the service, is expected within six weeks. The committee has been inquiring thoroughly into the working of all State departments. It is stated that many economies have already been carried out. As the most important improvements involve a reduction of the staff it may be some time before the full result of the committee’s labors is seen.
