Unusual interest, was manifested in the fixture, doubtless due to the fart that the sales held in other centres recently resulted in an improvement in prices compared with those of a few months ago. There was a large attendance of buyers and the available standing room in the building was taxed to the utmost by farmers and others interested. At the commencement V the sale buyers were active and bidding was spirited ; in fact, brokers present stated that iL was the most spirited sale held in New Zealand for years, and that, values in some cases were from 5 per cent, to 7j per cent, better than those ruling at the -Napier sales on the Tuesday.
The number of hales catalogued totalled 721.7, hut several lots were withdrawn before the sale commenced. Lambs’ wool was most in demand, and seven hales of Romney lamb wool sold by’ -Alfred B'uekland and Sons, Ltd., on behalf of Mr. J. M. Nicol, of Te Aroint, topped the market, realising a lb. The last mentioned is not equal to the prices similar wool brought at the recent Wellington sales, at which from 9d a lb to SJd a lb was realised.
