Inspector J. Johnston, of the Auckland headquarters staff, who retires from the. Police Force at the end of this month after a long and varied career, extending over a period of 45 years, was a sergeant at >St. Albans, Christchurch, in 1905, and was subsequently station sergeant at Christchurch. lie was later transferred to Auckland as sub-inspector, and in 1915 was appointed to a similar position at Gisborne, thence returning to the city station at Auckland.
