METEOR FALLS INTO SEA.
VICTORIA,'(B.C.), Jan. 18.—That a meteor swept across the sky ahead of his ship and landed in. the water some three of four miles off, sending the water high in the air, is the statement of Captain Thomas of the steamer Governor. According to the mariner, the sky was lit up all around by the big traveller of the sky. The pla,eo chosen as a landing site by the meteor was ' just south of the Swiflsure lightship, he says, and tlie timo was about 4 o'clock' in the morning. ■ • Only "Captain Thomas' reputation for accuracy might prevent some people from- feeling • that the meteor was merely a delightful flip of the imagination for the purposo of relieving the monotony of the watch. The "skipper, 'says this is only tho second meteor .■ he has seen, the' first being down on the equator.
