Tho monthly mooting of the V> aikohr, County Council was held tit To Karakn to-dav, there being present: Ci'S. T. B. Spence (chairman), C. H. Bridge, M. Doyle, h. H. Maclean, E. J. Williams, and U. V. Russell. Messrs. Hei and Nugent wrote on behalf of Mr. James. Morris, asking what compensation the council is prepared to pay for land taken from him for the purpose of a road.—The clerk was instructed to obtain all information in connection with the claim, the land having been taken several years ago. The clerk was also instructed to prepare a statement as to the position of othei areas dealt with at the same time. Mr. 0. Leggett, hon. secretary to the Te Karaka branch of the N.Z. Fanners Union, wrote drawing attention to the unsatisfactory condition of the watei supply at the Paha, trough.—Held ovci until later. Mr. F. W. Peddle- wrote, asking Unit a culvert bo placed on Xoillroad op posite his property. -iTho request waf agreed to, subject to Mr. reddle bearing the expense. The'district manager of the Government Life Insurance Department wrote.' applying for a renewal of the council'; employer' liability insurance.—lt was decided to renew the cover. -The secretary of the, N.Z. Farmers' Union, Poverty Bay district, wrote, thanking, the council lor' agreeing to erect a cattle dip at Motu.—Received. Mr. It. H. Maclean wrote, asking permission to run ft telephone wire across the puha-Whalatu'tu road. —Permission was granted. Mr. E- M.. Hutchinson advised that lie -.was prepared to terminate the council's lease-of . the roadman's section at Pontutu as from date of last payment 'of rent. —The clerk was instructed to write thanking Mr. Hutchinson for his action. Mr. W. Tucker, hon. secretary to the Matawai Schol Committee, wrote, drawing attention to the urgent need for the metalling on the'Motu Valley road be-. sag,put in hand as soon as possible.—lt uua decided to reply that a contract has already been let for putting 1000 cubic yards of metal on the road. -Mr. E. E. Williams wrote, stating that he had a "large amount of cartiiijj to be done, and would like his road put in order, as at'"present all goods have to be. .packed-.-*-Tho work was authorised, to a cost not exceeding £6O. The secretary of tho Board of Trade wrote, drawing attention to the regulations re tbc issue of permits for buildius materials.—Received. The assistaiit-Under-Secretary forward cd a copy of a proclamation declaring portion of Bruce's road (Huiarua block)' to be -a- county road.—Received. Tho Cook Hospital Board wrote, asking the council to appoint a small committee to confer with* tho Finance Committee of the Board with regard to capital expenditure.—Tho whole council was -appointed a committee to meet the board. The, Minister of Health wrote, stating that arrangements -b'ad been made for the Waikohu County Health inspector to cany out. inspection at Motuhora* ; and that the cost will be proportionate charge against the Opotiki County Coun-cil.—r-It was resolved to reply that the proposed arrangement is approved by the- council. Mr. F. O. York, Inspector of .Health., wrote, drawing attention to a building ■ at. Waipaoa' which had been erected without a. permit and in a manner which did not comply with tho by-laws. ' —it was decided to carry out the in- •' epector's recommendation. ' ' Dr. Mercer, Medical Officer of Health, wrote, outlining a- proposal to provide •' assistance, for the Health Inspector, and ' quoting, the amended scalo of contribu- . lions to. cover-the increased cost. Dr. • Mercer also pointed out that the duties' ' of inspection :of buildings and issuing ' permits<do .not come under tho duties ' of. an Inspector of Health, but* belong _' to • the . county engineer's office.—The \ amended scale of contributions was '' agreed ,to. .
