BREAKING IN A HORSE.
: CLAIM. BY OWNER, A claim for-£lO was made by Hubert M. Thompson' (Mr. L. T-. Burnard) against Rnngi Gilman (Mr. ,J S. Wauchop) in the• Magistrate's Court yesterday, for negligence alleged during the breaking in of a horse given t<V defendant by plaintiff. Mr. Burnard paid that, the horse, after" being partly broken in. was handed to the defendant to broken into harness. The. 'horse, counsel alleged, had sustained an injury while in defendant's care. Its wounds had hot been properly treated, and the animal was practically starved. As a result it became broken spirited, and its value was greatly depreciated. '- Plaintiff stated \t hat before he handed over the horse to defendant if was worth £ls, but at the present time it was not worth £5. Mr. Waucbop, for the defence, stated that the horse had always been well treated while in defendant's care. The injuries had been properlv treated, and they would make no difference to the valuo of the horse. Evidence was called in support, of this contention. Evidence was tendered by several witnesses, including Frederick Valentine, veterinary, surgeon, who stated that lie examined the horse, and expressed the opinion that the horse. had been well treated. During the afternoon his Worship examined the horse, and later entered iudement for defendant, with costs at £ll. ss. . . ■"*-"'
