(per . press Association.? WELLINGTON, this day. . The occasion of Mr. Justice Chapman’s retirement from the Bench was marked by a ceremonious farewell at tlio Sunreme Court. There was a crowded gathering, of the legal profession. Sir R. Stout and Mr. Justice Hosking were* with Mr Justice Chapman on the Bench. Mr. Skerrelt, on behalf of the profession of the Dominion,'and Mr. O’Leary, president .of tlio Wellington Law Society, made liighlv eulogistic speeches. Sir It. Stout, (Chief Justice) referred to pleasurable associations on tho Bench, where Judge Chapman has occupied a seat for 18 years. .Judge Chapman replied. He gave many interesting reminiscences of his * early -legal career in New Zealand. He stated that in two months he will have completed his 50th. year since he was called to the Bar. DUNEDIN, this day. The woman ’who dropped dead in the street Inst night has been identified ns Miss Agnes Caroline Smith, of Otautam. A doctor gave a m-fidics! csrtifi'ate that death was due to heart disease.
