THE TRADE DEPRESSION. (Elcc. Tel- Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON, Feb. 28. The official wages advances to coal miners under the November strike settlement are no ionger payable, S 3, owing to lift trade depression, the output is now only 17,650,C0G tor. 3, as compared with 19,040,000 tons for the September quarter. ' Mr, Evan Williams, president of the Mining Association of Great Britain, speaking at the South Wales Conciliation Board, said that only 16 companies out of 150 paid a profit in January. The pithead prices of coal at Cardiff yesterday were raised by 5s to 10s. Best household coal is now F3s 2d at the pithead.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
