GREAT BENZINE BLAZE.

21,000 CASES DESTROYED. NAPIER, last night. A disastrous fire, involving the loss of about 21,000 eases of benzine, the property of the Hawke’s Bay Trading Company, and £6OOO worth of wool and wool-scouring apparatus, occurred at McDonald’s wool-wash, Riverbend Road, at an early hour this morning. When discovered tho fire had a good hold and it was impossible to save anything. The efforts of the neighbors saved a house in the vicinity, which, had the wind been in the right direction, would certainly have been burnt. Scodring operations had not been in progress for some months past, and the absence of fires of any description makes the origin of tho outbreak a mystery. There were several bales of wool on the premises, and these were uninsured. The. insurance on the benzine is unobtainable, hut it is understood lo be in the vicinity of £30,000. The plant was insured fo'r £3OOO. The conflagration presented a great, sight and is still burning fiercely.—Press Assn. NAPIER, this day. Tn the benzine fire the insurances were £33,000 sterling with the New Zealand Insurance Co. A portion was reinsured with other companies. There, were 19,483 cases destroyed.
