CHRISTCHURCH, last night. / j At a large meeting held in Victoria Square To-night. the following motion was carried : “That this meeting of Christchurch citizens urges the Government not to carry out the death sentence on Reginald Matthews itnless medical re-examination proves beyond all dispute that he was sane when he committed the act for which lie lias been sentenced.” Large numbers signed a petition desiring the commutation of the death sentence. .ASHBURTON, this day. The. Hon. E. P. Leo, Minister of Justice, states tliul lie has already brought Matthews’ case before Cabinet, which decided that Matthews will lie examined by two medical, experts.
