MAILEY'S SUPERLATIVE! BOWLING Elec. Tel Copyright—United Press Assn.f (Received Feb. 16, 11.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 16. The Telegraph says: "Mailey as a bowler js superlative. He will go down in the history of the game as a recordbreaker. His wizardry twice stole the game from England. The crowd screamed the name of one'man, 'Mailey.' At one stage the Douglas-Fender combination altered the whole complexion of the game, giving the Australians qualms until an attack of Maileyism arrived." The Herald says: "Mailey's bawling was remarkable. No bowler previously had taken more than eight wickets in a test. • As in previous tests there were times when England was in a hopeful position, but she was unable to hold it. Australia was lucky >at the second knock., Collins was dropped when only three. What an alteration if Collins had not been missed in every test." — U.P.A. SYMPATHY FOR ARMSTRONG. A public meeting of Armstrong's sympathisers adopted a resolution that the excuses given for Armstrong's exclusion were unsatisfactory and that the selectors had lost the confidence of the public.^U.P.A. WAIRARAPA'S~VICTORY. THE HAWKE CUP MATCH. OPINIONS OF THE CAPTAINS. This morning a Herald reporter interviewed the captains of b°th teams, who each made a few remarks relative to the match, "First of all I wish to state that the members of my team are very pleased at the fine treatment meted out to them by the local Cricket Association," satd Mr. L. Smart,, the skipper of the Wairarapa team. Discussing the match ho stated that the outfield was particularly slow, and the wicket totally different # from the wicket this team'had been used to in Wairarapa. The wicket was patchy, and resulted in most of the balls keeping low.' Tliere was a peculiarity about the wicket wljich has team could not quite make out. They had never played in a match where the 'bowling, had such an upper hand, none of his batsmen being able to do justice to themselves. He was of the opinion that the fact of'the Hawko Cup: going away would stimulate greater interest in the minor associations. "THE., BEST TEAM WON." Mr L. McMahon, the captain of the Poverty Bay eleven, when asked for his opinion, said bethought that the bestteam had won. He paid a tribute to the groat display in the second innings by ' Dacrc, whose 61 for the visitors was an, eye-opener to both players and spectators.
