THE PURCHASE PROPOSAL. COUNCIL CONSIDERS PRICE ASKED IS EXCESSIVE. A meeting tjf the committee of the Gisborne Borough Count il was held last night, when the matter of, the Council purchasing the local gasworks was discussed. The Mayor (Mr. Geo. Wildish). in conversation with a Herald reporter this morning, stated that the Council was not satisfied with the price submitted by the. (ins Company, and it was decided to request the company tofkforward to the Council in writinn:. their lowest price. The amount asked was £125,C00, and 'tho Borough Council was at a loss to understand such a price. When the reply is received tlie matter of the purchase will again be discussed.
