ALLEGED BOOKMAKING.
NEW JURY TO BE EMPANELLED. WELLINGTON, this day. When the case against James Patterson, charged with carrying oil the business or occupation of a bookmaker, was called in the Supreme Court to-day, the Crown Prosecutor applied for an adjournment until Monday next for a fresh jury Jo bo empanelled. . “I propose,” said counsel, “to stand down the whole of the 24 jurors who served on the Marti ndalc and Livingstone cases and this would only , leave eighteen jurors on the panel. 1 can make application, your Honor, in view of the fact that the evidence in the case against Martindalo and Livinstone was practically uucontradictcd. I .feel that it should come before a fresh jury.” Mr O'Leary, for Patterson, strongly protested, but, Judge (Chapman said: “I shall want an application. 1 think it is only right, seeing what happened yesterday. ] think the matter should come before a fresh jury panel.” The trial was postponed till Monday. —Press Assn.
