The Irish command has ordered the wives of all soldiers serving m Ireland to return to Britain, thus placing the troops under active service conditions. Sim*. I'Vlners m Skibbereon cleverly captured mails delivered by aeroplane from Ban try. They marked a large white circle m a field and stood nearby m military uniform. Tlio aviator mistook the circle for the military sign and dropped the mail bags into it. The Sinn. Feiners quickly placed the bags m a motor car and' disappeared. The Sinn Fein leaders have issued an amazing statement to the. effect that the military m Ireland, m conjunction with certain members of Cabinet, have decided to break the Siinn Fein movement, ■nnd that the methods include "the assassination of members of the Da : l Eirann.. the arrest of hundreds of- local leaders, and intensified terrorism against the Irish people. An additioiiaf Assistant Under-Secre-tarv for Ireland is about to be appointed, with an office nt Belfast. ITe will deal with all problems arising m the six counties of Ulster. An announcement will shortly be made with* reference to the' enrolment of well-dispos-ed citizens to assist the authorities. — A. and N.Z.C.A. THE HUNGER-STRIKERS. | • LONDON, Sept. 14. This .is the 35th day of the hungerstrike m the Cork gaol. Friends of Hennessy,. , a youthfu. hunger-striker, made a protest that he was guiltless and could prove ari alibi f he chose to answer the charge. General Willis held a midnight court and* secured t some evidence as regards Hennessy's inocence, though his friends general, v refused to appear before the courtmartial.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
