A DANNEVIRKE ; EPISODE. DANNEVIRKE, last night. "Tbo membors of the Dannevirke Patriotic Society, after years of devoted service for the welfare' of active service! 'men, are greatly hurt and disgusted at • . tho insult put upon them by the officers ' of \- the Department of Internal Affairs m suggesting that \ they have misappropriat- { ed .some of ' the soldiers' fund,- and demanding that \ ■members shall personallymade restitution.". So rims a pottioh of a resolution passed by the. society at its last meeting. The sum involved, is. £250, £150 of which wus paid to - the Soldiers' Institute and £100 -to the Pnkeora Sanatorium. Tho Departmental attitude is that such payments should not have been . made, and the amount should have, been handed over to the Hawke's Bay Relief Association.' ; ', • The members Of the society maintain that they were a separate and. distinct im stitution, and were perfectly within their rights m doing as they, did. . In addition to expressing ' its opinion of the Departmental attitude, the meeting appointed a deputation to interview the Minister of Internal Affairs if nece6sary.-^Press Assn.
