In the presence of a large crowd an engine-driver was chained to a- tramway standard with a placard inscribed •"IScab" across the chest. Another man, was blindfolded and bound to a telegraph pole m the chief street of Carrickmacross, with a placard with the words; "I am a thief. I stole eggs," fastened to him.- A body of Sinn Feiners seized ex-Captain Mlurphy, a well-known Tralee man, while^ golfing, stripped him, and tarred him from head to waist. It was alleged he had applied for a cadetship m the Irish Constabulary.
