THE WOOL SALES.

(Received August 26, 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, August 24. At the wool sales 11,157 bales were catalogued, whereof 3249 were New Zealand. There was a crowded attendance of Home, Continental and United Slates buyers. Bidding was more active than for many months and there was a decidedly brisker tone all round. There was a capital selection of merinos and particularly fine hard Continental sorts, for which there was good Continental competition with occasional United States support. Merinos generally advanced five to ten per cent. Choice Goelongs were keenly competed for and 'several good greasy lots realised 64d. Fine crossbreds were m strong demand at five per cent, advance. For medium lower there was an improved demand, prices being unchanged. Some was withdrawn owihg to Government, reserves. For stipes there was a strong demand ; finer advanced five per cent.; lower were unchanged. Elderslie brand reached 56d. —A. and N.Z.C.A.

I Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following cable frony their London office : "The wool sales opened on the 24th. Greasy merino, fine, advanced 5 to 7_ per cent. ; for other descriptions of merino there was no change. Crossbred, fine, was at par to 5 per cent, advance; medium, j no change ; coarse and scoured, no de- i mand." .
