It is stated that natives m tho Wairoa district have been busy searching old records and agreements between the , Crown and the native race. As a result a deputation of two has gone to | Wellington to endeavor to secure a re•turn of certain lands alleged to have •been confiscated by the Government. The Horticultural Division of the Dejpartment of Agriculture has notified the !N.Z. Association, of Nurserymen that on account of the "fire blight," the export of New Zealand-grown pear trees or any portion of such trees is barred, by an embargo placed on their importation by the Government of the Commonwealth. 'It will be remembered that some years ago similar action was taken by the New Zealand Government to prohibit jthe importation of trees ' suffering from root knot. At that time thousands of j trees were condemned, and Australia ' sent over experts to inspect them prior jto destruction. I The offer made by representatives of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, the Builders' Federation, and the j Employers' Federation to assist m thc administration of the new building regulations has been approved by the president of the Board of Trade (the Hon. E. P. Lee). Advisory committees, consisting of the inspector of factories for the district and representatives of tlio j organisations of architects, builders, 'employers, and labor — one member for each interest — are to be set up m Auckland, Wellington, Cliristchurch, Dunedin., and Invercargill. These committees will not be concerned with applications for permits to erect dwellings for local bodies and public works, but will give advice m regard to other applications. No powers will be vested m these committees. Their functions will be wholly advisory. They will express opinions to the Board of Trade on applications (except those mentioned), which have to bo first lodged with the local authorities. Each committee's advisory sphere will be the territory covered . by the inspector of factories for the district. ' The Board of Trade is confident that these committees' local knowledge will be valuable m assuring the satisfactory working of the regulations. A similar system of local committees m connection with other work of tlie board has been justified by results.
