LONDON, July IG— ln the boxing match between Joe Beckett and Tommy Burns, fought at the Albert Hall, Beckett won easily, ; Burns' seconds throwing in the towel in the seventh round. „ The Albert Hall was, not as crowded as \ was expected. The opening round was tame. Beckett had all his own way, .Bums showing poorly. Beckett scored all ways. As the bell rang Buriis appealed lor a foul, which the referee Ignored. . In the second round Beckett landed frequently with both fists on opponent's body. A hard left to Bums'- nose hrough blood. Burns was only able to hold on ' while- Beckett was adding' points. The third round brought a dramatic surprise. Burns winning the round from start td finish. He sent his left nook to Beckett's- jaw early in the round. This was the» best punch up to 'then. Bums repeated the blow several times and worked "Bis right occasionally. Beckett meanwhile played for opponent's body.. The fourth round saw heavy fighilng, Bums ducking cleverly and showing traces of his old footwork. He repeatedly countered successfully, 'and •• many of Beckett's blows missed their mark. In the fifth round. Burns, after lively sparring, became slightiy unsteady • after .receiving', a" hard right to, the jaw. Beckett, missed many opportunities. Burns endeavored' to retaliate iris left, but. his efforts lacked power. ' In the sixth round Burns began operations with several ineffective punches to : the head. BecWett ■'"responded and gave", considerable punishment to Burns, who was becoming weaker. In the seventh round Burns' right «;ye was almost closed, but he was still game 1 and crafty. Beekett delivered a nasty blow to the jaw and then an uppercut. This was the decisive blow.
