There was a good attendance of the public and soccer enthusiasts at the Do•\miii on* Saturday afternoon to witness the match between the "toung Men's artd Gisborne Clubs. Tho game was very ■:-ir>V conr-FWI. . tV>- G'pb^mn' team, if anything, having the superiority m the forwards, and the other team tho best . ■'. of hacks. The selectors were oresent watching the play, to choose who will ■..-.-,„„,.„„<. fj 1P r f r jp) j n j.i le challenge .match % with Wellington for the brown Shield.* The first part of the gayie was v -favor of, the Gisborne team, the forwards putting m some good interesting play and giving the Y._J. backs a busy ime. ■ *Sn the,, second part Y.M. put more vim into their work, and some intereting play was firovided. The game endod m Gisborne's favor by 2 goals to 1, a -•enalty, being^ kicked by X: Kelly and a "•^al scored by Shields, whilo for the losers A. Gardiner secured a penalty kick. T'ho spectacular play of Gardiner, for V .M., caused considerable comment, his work enabling tho backs to provide in"oresting attacks.- Mr Duncombe was retVree.
