'MATAWAI BRANCH
The annual meeting of the Matawai brunch of the N.Z- Farmers' Union was= held m the Matawai hall on Saturday last. The chairman (Mr. \\\ Tucker)' was' unanimously re-elected ■ president. mv. \V. J. Scholium was eLected secretary, In place of Mr. IT. E- Burgess, who has lefl the district, and Mr. O. V- Russell was elected delegate m place of Mr. Henson, who is leaving shortly to take up his residence m Auckland. There was a good attendance of members, and a lot of general business was discussed, loremost, of which was the question of the forest reserve m behind Matawai and Motuhora, which was lately reported hjy the Minister of Lands to be unsuitable for settlement. After considerable discussion, U was decided to write the Minister of Lands, pointing out the erroneous natufee of the? report, and the fact that settlers hounding the blook on three sides were doing well on similar country, and were satisfied tho reserve was quite fit for settlement. It was oecided .also lo again request, the Minister to open for settlement Block V., Motu S.D.. G.R., which is known locally to be good country.
