One death is .reported, , that of Frank Dunkley, a supervisor for the Public Worksu Department, ..who was inspecting damage near oiorohanga; when he got into difficulties, m a wasjiout and was drowned. ROTORUA, last night. For the 48 hours ending 9 a.m. yesterday 0.11 inches of rain fell. The Utuhina stream, rose .ten feet. The water entered a few houses on the banks, bht no serious damage was done, as the river subsided •quickly- "when the rain slackened. The weather is now fine. The Auckland express left about 1 p.m. A t washout at Sfamaku has been temporarily repaired. At the washout at Putartiru the passen gers had to be transferred. TE KUITI. last night. Torrential rain on; Saturday nighty flooded Te Kulti- The? water invaded atveral shops and the damage was fairly Jheavy. The town is isolated by stir on the main road. Gahgs are at work clearing the debris. Oh Sunday the e? press from the north got through, but on Monday morning the water irrapidly and the line between Hah;gatikt and Otorohanga was covered to a .depth of three feet. A fatality is reported at Honikiwi, TWr. E. F. A. Dunkley, Public works ©rerseer, being swept off his horse and drowned. The body has not yet been found: Several bridges have gone m the country, and 4 (here are numerous. :slips and other damage. The weather •cleared to-day.
