THE MEAT PROBLEM.
SUGGESTED OUTLET
Several phases of the drought m the ' Commonwealth were brought before delegates at the Farmers' Union Conference at Auckland, by Mr. Jones, M.P., of the South Island, who recently returned from a visit to Australia. One of the most interesting of these, so far as this Dominion is concerned, although uniortunato for Australia, is the fact that they only have one 'million carcases m Vie.' toria, and half a million m New South Wales, the total comprising the extent of their output for the next two years. •While sympathising with those affeoted m the matter on the other side, Mr. Jones said that it would 1 help Now Zealand to solve the meat problem. To give them an idea of the seriousness of the ' drought he said that he passed over large stretches of country, of which he could not tell the grassed • from tho ploughed lands, so s ; milar were they m appearance. He also traveled large areas of what t was obviously rabbit-rid- ! den country, yet there was not a sign of a rabbit to be seen. ,
