President Wilson, by vetoing the resolution, declared that the treaty embodied important things omitted by resolution. In rejecting the I treaty tlie United States declared m effect that she wished to draw apart and pursue only heriown objects and interests. Such a peace with Germany as the resolution proposed is or ought to be inconceivable as it i& • inconsistent with the dignity of the United States and with the ' rights and liberties of citizens and the very fundamentals of civilisation. A deputation of railwaymen interviewed Mr. J* Dooley, Chief Secretary, who promised that If the Commissioners refuse to pay he. will have an amount placed on the estimates to cover the payment. In regard (to the railway policy generally, he addted that the Government, had submitted their desires to the Commissioners. Whether the policy cf the Commissioners was going iq he m keeping with the policy of the Government, he was unable to say, but he would give assurance that the policy. of the Labor Party as declared at the elections is going to be carried out-
