"THE MAN FROM KANGAROO."
.. . » . ; -.■■■■ ;:,' . . The- E. J- Carroll picture, "The Mau from Kangaroo," presented atjs'ttie Opera House last evening, represents^- ar triumph for colonial histrionic and photographic art. The exploits of "Snowy" ißaker, -the great Australian athlete, In.' breaking brumbies, pursuing cattle thieves, and m frustrating the plot of Martin Giles to abduct Muriel, the- girl m the cast Iplayed exquisitely by Miss Browney Vernon) were more hair-raising than anything seen m the American films. The quiet beauty of the Australian backblock scenery forms a fitting setting for the love -story of Harland, -H*e , younpc minister, and Muriel, the Heiress of Wohrangai Station. When Harland is removed by the influence of Giles from the Kangaroo parish to the ; village near Wohrangai,» his apparent Acquiescence brings Muriel's scorn upon .his head, the course of true love once again justifies its reputation. Finally, however, after renouncing the clergy, and taking to the station- life, Harland is able to prove himself, and to gratify the audience's intense -dislike of . "Red Jack" ilraggan, cattle thief and the tool of jiles. The final scenes of the picture show some of the finest horsemanship 2ver witnessed on the screen. The Jmmor )f the kiddies m the first part, aiid of the typical "out-back" . Australian all,' ,hrough, balance well the serious »iv«., )f the film, which abounds in' scenes of jeauty and of refreshing sentiment, anc£ ■vill long be remembered by those who jce it. It -.will bo finally, shown to-' night, when another full house Is anticl-' )ated.
